Greetings from Nicaragua
Things have been going really well here in Nicaragua. The greatest accomplishment is that the Bible study in San Antonio is rolling along smoothly. We have been studying Romans and are now in the 5th chapter. I have learned so much as I have been teaching. Most families in San Antonio have not been exposed to Biblical teaching. People are really starting to open up and tell us their situation. It is rare for me to go there now and not be asked to pray for someone who is sick or has a need. There are about 8-10 families coming to the Bible study. They don’t always come at the same time. Theft is so bad in San Antonio that someone always has to remain in the house so that it won’t be robbed while they are away. That means that families can’t all attend the Bible study each week. We still face great difficulties with the Sandinista (CPC) government. We feel like they buy alcohol to young men and ask them to sit in front of the church to cause disruptions. They tore the Electric meter off the Church last month, but the electric company replaced it. Romans 5: 1-3 tells us that we can rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that they work patience. We know that God uses things like this to draw men closer to Him, so we will rejoice.
VBS We had the first ever Vacation Bible School in San Antonio in January. It was so much fun. A group of Men from West Jefferson, NC came down and brought the supplies to do a 5 day VBS.
VBS IN San Antonio
We had crafts and snacks each day. On the 3rd day, The CPC hired a clown and gave out food to try to lure the kids away, but we still had a huge crowd. The last day was a real treat. The group bought pizza for the whole VBS crew. It was the first time that most of the kids had ever had a slice of pizza. I love being a part of those type things. We had 100-140 kids coming each day. The Word of God is planted and will not return void.
The new Patio
The team also extended the roof and patio on the building so we will have more space for our weekly Bible Club. This will be a huge blessing in the rainy season.
For Christmas, we attended a service La Reforma Iglesia Bautista. Pastor Stuart has a feeding program in his church. Often, they don’t have water to cook with. Thanks to God for placing it on the heart of someone, we were able to buy a water tank and have it installed at the church. We also had money donated to purchase 3 pigs for a farmer who is helping with the feeding program.
We are especially thankful for the opportunity God has provided for us to watch the birth of hummingbirds. We have learned so much about them in the past month. Just outside our kitchen window, a hummingbird has built a nest and laid 2 eggs. We were able to watch as the eggs hatched. Mama bird has been feeding the birds and keeping off other birds by dive bombing them. One baby died, but the other is healthy and growing. We have had professional photographers ask to come and take pictures.

Wednesday Night Bible/English Study We currently have 3 young men studying the Bible at our house on Wednesday night. Jerry, Norving, and Jose Louis. We read 2-3 chapters a night, 5 verses at a time. Each person reads the same 5 verses and we listen to it on Cd also. This lets us hear the verses 4 times each. Then we discuss what they mean. We go verse by verse and are currently in the book of Hebrews. We are hoping these young men will develop habits of studying God’s word. It will be an added bonus if they come away with a southern accent. They are a great group of college students. Please pray for them.
As we begin our 4th year in Nicaragua, we want to thank everyone for your prayers and support. We are planning on coming back to the US for a visit in March. Please pray for those who will have us in their homes as we travel. I know there will be some grandparents, aunts and Uncles who will be excited. Please pray for our travel. 1Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do it all for the glory of God. It is my prayer that we are glorifying God in all we do.
